Next Big Step
What does "Next Big Step mean?"
Next Big Step (NBS) is a workforce development program focused on helping ThrivePoint students research career options, choose a direction and acquire the training needed to start their career upon graduating high school. It is the framework for everything we do to service students. In short, it's what we are all about at ThrivePoint.
As a collaborative effort, campus and district staff members will partner with the business community to provide speakers, organize community events and arrange for career-focused field trips.
Your Path from Classroom to Career
Connecting Education to Employment
Every other week, ThrivePoint Academy hosts guest speakers from various industries, offering insights into career paths and workplace expectations. Students also hear from the Department of Economic Development and trade schools about local opportunities. As the year ends, they receive guidance on summer jobs, applications, and interviews, with resume-building and interview prep workshops.
Internships & Real-World Experience
ThrivePoint is reviewing a proposal from Work-Based Learning Alliance (WBLA) to offer virtual internships, where students can work on real-world projects with guidance from mentors and businesses. These internships will help students develop key skills in collaboration, communication, meeting deadlines, feedback, and project management.
Workforce Field Trips
ThrivePoint Academy organizes field trips for hands-on career exploration. Students interact with professionals across various industries, gaining practical insights into different career paths. They also explore emerging technologies and innovations shaping modern careers, helping them make informed decisions about their future.
Engaging with the Community
Every six weeks, campuses organize events that welcome students, families, and the broader community. These events create valuable networking opportunities, allowing attendees to connect directly with professionals from a variety of industries. Through these interactions, students can explore potential career paths and gain insight into the skills and experiences needed for success in different fields.
Alumni Club
Graduates receive up to seven years of career support, including resume building, networking opportunities, job placement resources, and access to career training programs. Alumni stay engaged through an annual survey, sharing their post-secondary journey, career progress, and feedback on how ThrivePoint contributed to their success.
