ThrivePoint Academy of Utah Featured by KSL: Redefining Connection in Online Learning

Written by School Leader | Aug 19, 2026, 11:29:24 PM

Online learning offers flexibility, but that doesn’t mean students should have to learn on their own.

That’s one of the ideas highlighted in a recent KSL feature on ThrivePoint Academy of Utah, a tuition-free public charter school serving students in grades 7–12 throughout Utah. The feature explores how ThrivePoint is creating unique opportunities for students to connect with their peers, build relationships, and feel part of a school community—even when much of their learning happens online.

At ThrivePoint, we believe flexibility and connection can go hand in hand.

Making Online School Feel More Connected

For many families, online school is appealing because it gives students more flexibility in how, when, and where they learn. Students may need a schedule that works around their individual needs, prefer learning at their own pace, or simply thrive outside of a traditional classroom setting.

But flexibility shouldn't mean giving up the social side of school.

That’s why connection is such an important part of the ThrivePoint experience. Our online learning model is designed to give students access to teachers, Student Success Coaches, and their peers while still providing the independence and flexibility that make online education work for their lives.

Students can connect through virtual discussions, video conferences, real-time communication, and other opportunities to engage with classmates and staff. These interactions help create a sense of belonging and give students opportunities to build relationships beyond their coursework.

A School Designed Around Students

ThrivePoint serves Utah students in grades 7–12 with personalized learning pathways designed to meet students where they are.

Some students choose a fully online experience, while others prefer to attend in person or combine online learning with on-campus support. ThrivePoint offers all three options, allowing families to choose a learning format that fits their student’s goals, schedule, and needs.

That flexibility can be especially valuable for students who haven't found success in a traditional school environment. Whether a student needs a fresh start, a more personalized approach, additional independence, or simply a different way to learn, ThrivePoint provides a supportive environment where students can move forward at their own pace.

Support That Goes Beyond the Classroom

While technology makes online learning possible, it’s the people behind the technology who make the experience meaningful.

ThrivePoint students have access to certified teachers who provide personalized support, along with Student Success Coaches who check in with students regularly and help them stay on track. The school currently maintains a 50:1 student-to-coach ratio, giving students another layer of guidance and advocacy as they work toward their goals.

This support is especially important for students who are learning independently. Rather than simply logging in, completing assignments, and moving on, students have a team they can turn to when they have questions, need encouragement, or are working through an academic challenge.

Creating Opportunities to Connect

One of the biggest misconceptions about online school is that students spend the entire day isolated behind a computer.

ThrivePoint is working to change that.

Through opportunities to interact with classmates, participate in activities, connect with staff, and engage with the broader school community, students can develop friendships and relationships while still enjoying the flexibility of online learning.

And for students who want more in-person connection, ThrivePoint also offers on-campus and hybrid options. Students can attend a Utah campus for in-person instruction, hands-on learning, and community connection, or combine online coursework with in-person support.

A Different Kind of School Community

Every student learns differently, and every student’s path looks a little different.

For some, the right fit may be a traditional classroom. For others, it may be an online program that allows them to learn from home while still feeling connected to teachers and peers. ThrivePoint was built around the idea that students shouldn't have to choose between flexibility and support.

As a tuition-free public charter school, ThrivePoint provides Utah students with access to personalized, accredited education designed around real-life needs. Students can learn anytime and anywhere, receive individualized support, and choose a pathway that works for them.
